An international market research organization has come up with a report stating that demographics of Australia will go through some important changes over the period of next decade, and that immigration will comprise of a big part of the future of the country.
IBISWorld has predicted that Australia would increasingly depend on people who immigrate to the country as birthrates would continue to fall over the next decades.
The population of Australia, which is 21.4 million at present, will become 25.7 million by the end of 2020, which means a growth of 1.5 percent per year. At present the median age of population of Australia is 36.7 years, which would further rise to 37.9 percent, the report stated.
The report predicts that the net migration o the country will be somewhere around 2.5 million between now and mid-2020, which will ultimately become the only source of population growth in Australia as the aging population and low fertility rate among Australians will make sure that annual deaths numbers will overtake the number of babies born, may be in the 2030s.
There is definitely something for Australia to boast about as the country has the highest percentage of foreign born population in the whole world with 24.6 percent. The second highest foreign born population is of Canada, followed by the United States of America, Austria and Germany.
A staggering twenty percent of current Australian populations were born overseas with the top few birthplaces being UK, Ireland, New Zealand and Italy.
