Recent immigrants in Peel hit hardest due to recession

According to a public health expert, the unemployed population of Peel is at greater risk of getting ill, and chances are that recent immigrants would be hit the hardest.
Professor emeritus at the University of Toronto, Dr. Chandrakant Shah, said in front of some one-hundred-and-fifty social service and health agencies representatives that he is worried because of the high rate of unemployment in Peel due to the current recession.
He said that recent immigrants in Peel are always the most vulnerable whenever there is an economy downturn, adding that many of them are unable to make ends meet.
Shah, who is also a health advocate for Aboriginal Peoples and the homeless, said while addressing a group of people at the Canadian Coptic Centre, that recent groups of immigrants are hit the hardest due to the recession and added that it is absolutely unjustified that the country brings in some of the highly talented and educated people across the globe and then tell them that their credentials are useless in this country.
Shah said that he works with the Peel Public Health and had the desire to get involved in taking part in proactive things and not reactive things after he saw that unemployment rate in Peel is 10.9 percent.
