Tavia Grant and Jennifer Yang narrated the troubles of immigrants in the Canadian work force in a special report this weekend explaining both sides of the economic recovery of Canada.
On one hand, a surprising number of women (60,000) aged fifty-five and above successfully entered the Canadian labor force, whereas on the other side, they found that job loss rate among immigrants are at least three times more than what it is in case of workers who are born in Canada.
The story disclosed that employment fell by 1.6 percent in case of Canadian born workers in the past one year. In comparison to this, immigrants who have worked in the country for at least five years saw a fall of 5.7 percent in employment. The story also suggested that immigrants will have to spend more time than their Canadian counterparts in search for a new job.
Tavia Grant will join executive director of the Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council, Elizabeth McIsaac, on Tuesday in order to hold a discussion on the topic.
TRIEC comes up with smart solutions to assist skilled immigrants in integrating into the Greater Toronto Region labor market. Ms. McIsaac has been part of the council ever since it was created in the year 2003.
