Amendments will strengthen the immigration system

The government of Canada has made it clear that it would reintroduce amendments to Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Protection Act which are primarily aimed at protecting immigrants on a Canadian visa from any form of exploitation in the country.

In general, immigrants who come to Canada in order to work in industries like live-in caregiver and immigrants working as dancers, etc, are vulnerable and can be exploited by their employers who initially promise them paid work but do not do so. Other immigrants may be forced to work in jobs which are not up to their standard and are humiliating.

These people are generally on temporary work visas and as per the changes, Canadian immigration will have more power to refuse visas to people who they feel might be exploited by immoral employers.

Speaking on part of the Jason Kenney, the Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Canada, Josee Verner, said that the changes will make the immigration system of Canada stronger by helping in preventing incidents where temporary foreign workers from foreign nations may be abused and exploited in Canada, or possibly end up being victims of human trafficking.

Labor Minister Rona Ambrose said that the amendments will increase protections for workers from foreign nations.
