It is expected that Canada would soon open its doors for hundreds of Afghans who are facing severe threats to their lives after working with Canadian military and diplomats.
Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, Jason Kenney said that he is almost done with a policy that would help Afghans who are in danger due to their association with Canada.
Contrary to other NATO countries, there is no policy on humanitarian grounds for local staffs in Canada, but now, things might change on this front.
According to some reports, Afghans who have suffered serious injuries while working with the Canadian military or who can prove to officials that their life is threatened will qualify to be fast tracked into Canada.
Those immigrants who satisfy the criteria may be able to land in Canada, along with their direct relatives, in not more than a few months.
In order to be eligible to be fast tracked to Canada, employees must have a minimum of twelve months of service to the Canadian mission, medical and security checks. The applicant will also require a letter from a senior diplomat or senior soldier recommending him or her and thus certifying that the person’s life is at risk.
