Most new immigrants to Canada go through rough experiences during their initial days in the country. Come this global recession and you find the job market to be on pins and needles. There is high degree of insecurity for immigrants in Canada, especially these days.
It would be unfair to say that everyone sits on a rollercoaster in Canada, as there are quite a few who find it easy being here. But in most cases, it takes a while for immigrants to secure decent employment. But that’s not a great problem as it seems, one has to be patient as one’s resume gets attention sooner or later.
With the first paycheck, things fall in place, or it seems so, and you head for a superstore with confident vibes. You start buying things which you once felt were out of your reach and you tend to count on the goodness of the country.
Things can get even smoother and better if you get the opportunity to work with a good employer. As far as possible, try to get employment in commercial establishments that are owned and run by third to fifth generation Canadians and do not act immaturely to see if they fit the bill. In case you have the luxury to choose among some jobs, try to get employment at a Canadian company.
It is true that working alongside people of your own ethnic group has some benefits, but chances are that your employers exactly the same attitude as present in the old world.
