The Canadian government has announced that if refugee claimants from five countries are trying to get into Canada from the United States then they are no longer welcome in the country.
The Canwest News Service Reported on Friday that Minister of Immigration, Citizenship, and Multiculturalism, Jason Kenney, has said that refugee claimants from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Afghanistan, Iraq, Haiti and Zimbabwe would not be entertained if they try to get into Canada from the United States.
The government said that the new announcement would affect some five-thousand people every year.
The report said that the government is trying to make sure that people making refugee claims should look for protection in whichever country among Canada and the US they enter first.
Not even a week ago, diplomatic protests were filed by the Czech Republic and Mexico after the introduction of new requirements by Canada for citizens of these two countries to have travel visas. The immigration department said that the number of travelers from these counties who look for refugee status were not unacceptable.
The report said that the announcement which came of Thursday also gave green signal to the deportations of immigrants to Liberia, Burundi, and Rwanda, which would have its effect on some 2000 people in the country.
