Struggling Asian wives live alone and isolated

Recession hit Asian men are moving out of the country to search for work, but they are not been accompanied by their wives and children, who remain in New Zealand.
A University of Auckland expert said that for these suddenly single mothers in the Asian community the situation is turning out to be a mental health timebomb, and they are not looking for help or even sharing their troubles with friends due to fear and shame.
Director of the Centre for Asian Health Research and Evaluation at the University, Dr. Amritha Sobrun-Mahraj, said that there is a requirement of immediate research to determine the extent of the problem and its effects on New Zealand.
She said that lack of research on issues regarding mental health of Asians in the country has result in loss of what is needed to be done by authorities and health officials and that how to get in touch with these mental health sufferers.
Dr. Sobrun-Mahraj said that in Asian community, problem related to mental health is thought to be shameful and if these sufferers are not contacted and they continue to live isolated, this may lead to problem for New Zealand.
