Heights of impracticality

Walking, I thought, is the last thing that you could do in those 6-inch high stilettos until the day I decided to pore over the feet of each lady that I could capture with my eyes, when I went shopping to the nearby mall. And that’s when I concluded that women can definitely have the unimaginable, under their feet.

Actually, it was that ‘tick-tock’ noise made by a fashionable lady’s footwear that prompted me to give it thought. Immediately I decided to gaze more at people’s feet than at the cloth-stands. Not many, I initially thought, would capture my interest as it was a shopping-mall and not a formal-dinner where lovely ladies would turn up in those pointed heels. But to my surprise there were not many who were ready to give-up on their style factor, no matter how uncomfortable it made them.

Most of the ladies that I saw were in big heels, some impractically high. Were they really comfortable or just pretended to be so, was something I could not guess but most of them carried the heels with great elegance. No denying the fact that heels add that extra grace to a women’s personality but the comfort factor should never be given up on and some precautions if taken can take you miles with your favorite footwear.[inline:1]

There are some occasions when you simply can’t do without that heightened stiletto. Be it a salsa-dance class with your tall partner or that grand party but you should consider not wearing your heels for more than a couple of hours and remove them the very moment you are back. In case you happen to stay in them for long and sense pain in your feet, a good foot massage can do wonders and will have you running the next day.

One should avoid buying high heels on first sight, but be very choosy. It is usually better to first check as many stores as possible to see what styles are available. Never choose style over comfort.

Poorly fitted high heels can quickly cause blisters, corns. These foot problems can become so painful that one must give up wearing high heels. So, precautions should be taken to prevent these foot problems before they happen.

All shoes should be slightly bigger (at least 1/8 of an inch) than each foot. One should never buy a pair that is tight anywhere because tight shoes will bruise the feet and cause unnecessary pain and problems, including painful bursitis. On the other hand, shoes that are too big or loose can put extra strain on the ankles and will not look right on the feet. Just imagine them looking like mommy's shoes being worn by a little girl.

I don’t intend to advice, encourage or discourage the use of high heels. I am and always have been a fan of the high heel shoe, what I am not a fan of is killing myself to please others who look at my feet.
