The funding for Home Instruction for Parents of Pre-School Youngsters (HIPPY) would be increased by CAD 3.5 million, Citizenship and Immigration Canada announced.
The aim of the program is to help immigrants settle in their communities by improving their literacy skills. The skills which would be worked upon for helping assisting immigrants living and working in Canada would include better understanding of the culture of Canada, its language and lifestyles in this country. The service also assists immigrants to access their communities services and in general terms, it helps them in the process of settling in Canada.
Immigration Minister of Canada, Jason Kenney, said that with the help of the additional investments, the reach of HIPPY would be expanded to more number of cities of Canada and would help more number of newcomer families improve their skills of language and literacy levels, and will ultimately help in maximizing their contribution to the society.
The process of learning can be carried out in the homes of immigrants. The extra funding comes in as a bonus on completion of ten years of the HIPPY project which has been of immense benefit to people who came to Canada in recent years.
