After the racist attacks on Indian students in Australia, students from India might choose New Zealand for pursuing higher studies and immigration. In spite of the fact that New Zealand is near Australia, New Zealand is different due to its approach towards broad-based society and tolerant attitude.
There are many reasons why Indians will be more satisfied they choose New Zealand as their overseas choice to study and immigrate.
First of all, New Zealand is a classless society where no differences in social structure exist. It also means that there is no place for discrimination based on ethnicity, religion and race.
Secondly, people of Indian origin have greater influence on politics when it comes to New Zealand than they have in Australia. We have Kawaljit Singh Bakshi, Anjum Rehman, Ashraf Choudary, as MP from the opposition Labor Party. Even the Governer General of New Zealand is a person of Indian origin and his name is Sir Anand Sathyanand.
Thirdly, New Zealand offers more chances to immigrants for acquiring permanent residency and then citizenship, which isn’t the case in Australia. According to the recent trends, students on a one-year student visa can apply for their one-year graduate open-work visa which gives them the liberty to choose any job. After completion of one year, they can further apply for a two-year work visa and also apply for a PR, which can be acquired if they are able to earn the required points.
Rupert Holborow, New Zealand High Commission to India, said that in recent years, India has become one of the most important source countries for students.
