International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is a test which is recognized all over the world and is used to determine English ability in four important areas, i.e. reading, speaking, listening and writing.
IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training are the two different types of IELTS test and the reason behind your taking the test would determine which of the two tests you need to take.
IELTS Academic- You will be required to take IELTS Academic if you are planning to attend a Canadian university or college. Before beginning the study for IELTS, you must inquire as to what score you need to get, as different universities and colleges have different requirements. An overall score of 6.5 is the minimum band score for IELTS (Academic Only) for all universities in Canada. It must be noted that scores of IELTS (General Training) are not accepted by Canadian universities or colleges as these are for useful for only immigration and work purposes.
IELTS General Training- This test is made for immigration purposes in particular. Recently, the IELTS requirements for immigration have been decreased by Canada.
So, before starting with your preparation for IELTS, you must make sure the IELTS paper you have to take, and what is the score required for the same.
Though the listening and speaking part of the IELTS are similar in case of both tests, but when it comes to reading and writing parts, every IELTS paper are quite different and so it is extremely important to center you paper and start your practice with the correct type of paper.
