No easy answers are offered to Antonio Insogna, a St. Lazare resident and father of a mentally handicapped young man. Antonio’s son is stuck in the Philippines with his new-formed family and he wants to get his son and daughter-in-law here. Earlier, he went to speak to five federal elections candidates in Vaudreuil-Soulanges after the public debate held at Cite des Jeunes high school in Vaudreuil-Dorion.
The Conservative hopeful Michael Fortier told him that he understands his pain and patted him on his back before simply walking away.
According to Insogna, prior to this, he has tried to approach Fortier twice in the past regarding the predicament of his son, but every effort has failed.
According to Insogna, his son got secretly engaged to a Filipina woman, Arlene, whom the Insognas were set to hire as a housemaid in 2007. Later, his son Virrorio, flew to San Pedro in order to marry Arlene.
Insogna said that they got a call from the couple to San Pedro, and then the two professed their love for each other. They got married and were ready to move back to Canada. But a visa immigration officer at the Canadian embassy in Manila did not allowed Arlene to be through. The officer claimed the marriage to be one of convenience and Arlene did it in order to move to Canada, Insogna said.
Insogna also tried to approach other party members as well in order to explain his problem and seek a solution. Bloc Quebecois incumbent Meili Faille, who has met Insogna in the past as well, offered him some sympathetic words while she was speaking to different voters. While explaining Insogna’s story, she told a supporter that they did the maximum possible last time and are still trying to help him.
