Delay in the deportation of a “perfect Canadian family”

The Montivero family lives in a beautiful, comfortable and well furnished bungalow on Logan Street in St. Catharines. Edgaro Montivero, the family patriarch, worked at Janco Steel in Stoney Creek, as a foreman. Along with him Walter, his eldest son, also worked there as a crane operator. His wife Rosa runs her own cleaning company.

The family is by all quarters, a perfect Canadian family. Since the last eight years, they never failed to pay their property and income taxes. But in spite of having all the qualities of a good Canadian family, they are no longer wanted in Canada.

After happily living for nearly a decade in St. Catharines, Eddie and Rosa Montivero and their children, Walter, Juan and their pregnant daughter Yesica are now being sent back to Argentine. Yesica has a 19-month old child Xavier, who was born in Canada.

Eddie Montivero said on Wednesday that the immigration agents tell them that they are good citizens but have to leave. They have good jobs and are not relying on government assistance, but still, they have to go back.

Although the family was scheduled to leave on Wednesday, but the deportation was delayed due to the ongoing complications with Yesica’s pregnancy.

Montivero said that in Argentina, he used to work as a police officer. His last assignment over there was an investigation of bank robberies. Unfortunately, a number of police officers were involved in the robbery. Although, all of them were arrested, tried and convicted, the culprits have threatened to destroy the family. Thus, he feels that their life will be in danger in Argentina.
