The vote of confidence was in favor of the Canadian government in Ottawa, Monday, 9th of June. Finally, the Parliament voted for the bill which contains controversial immigration law changes. The country has seen it all going by and yet the opposition had its hand rubbing to burn. Bill c-50, which contains the controversial act, was passed by a vote of 121 in favor against 90 odds in the house of the commons.
The above mentioned bill contains certain ambiguous changes, which the government claims to be necessary in the wake of the situation. The amendment gives the immigration minister the power to rule largely. The minister can at its own will accept or discard immigration application depending upon the demand in the country of the respected fields. Whatever it may be, the results are bound to be biased.
The government has argued the step was necessary to get in terms with the backlog of more than 900,000 immigration applications waiting for the decision, which now takes three to six years for even those who meet with all the requirements. The bottom line is that the government may site numerous reasons to justify the moves, but it will be really difficult to avoid the heat in days to come.
