Chinese couple opens shop in number one ranked ‘Moncton’

Four years ago, when Hong Liao and her husband Zhian Zhou immigrated to Ontario from southern China, the two chemical engineers wondered as to where in this vast land will they settle, and how will they make a living for themselves and their two-preschoolers.
They didn’t felt that they would be able to find an employment in chemical engineering in Canada, but then, they also had a strong interest in going into business.
Liao said that it was then that they saw a magazine that ranked Moncton as number one for business. Also, it was close to the ocean and seemed like a good place to do business. Liao said that it was also a fine place to raise the two youngsters, adding that her feeling has been proved correct.
The store opened in May and has been cookery to the local Asian community and the Chinese community in particular, but Liao says that wishes to welcome people of all community through their doors.
She said that the business is OK so far and is slowly picking up.
The market is small yet it offers a wide rage of frozen and packaged food, snacks, dry goods, green teas, candies and more.
The Multicultural Association of the Greater Moncton Area said that the fact that Liao and Zhou selected the area demonstrates that there is much for the immigrants here. Executive director Lorraine LeClair said that he thinks the greater Moncton area needs to take the credit for showing the world as to why people should do business here.
