Canadian government lends helping hand to the new Canadians to get jobs
The government of Canada has funded a new project that would help skilled workers migrating to Canada to integrate into the workforce and their communities.
On behalf of the Minister of Human Resources and Social Development Monte Solberg, Senator Hugh announced the funding for the Assisting local Leaders with Immigrant Employment Strategies (ALLIES) project with the partnership of the Maytree Foundation. It announced an investment of more than $800,000.
Senator Segal said that the government of Canada is in the process of creating the world’s best educated, most skilled and most flexible workforce. He said that the project would help the employers to integrate the skilled new immigrants into their workforce and the local communities in an efficient way.
In order to develop a complete set of online tools on immigration that would help the employers and the community groups to integrate the immigrants efficiently, the Maytree foundation will funding through the federal government’s Foreign Credential Recognition Program, FCRP. It is believed that this would have a positive impact on the Canadian economic and social development.
Some of the online tools that can be beneficial for the employers and the immigrants will consist of information on mentoring, internships, co-op placements, loan programs and success stories to motivate them. The new project will aim for building a stronger awareness among the employers regarding the values of international credentials. It will also aim to make them understand the need to create and provide new and better opportunities for skilled immigrants.
Executive director of Maytree, Ms. Ratna Ornidvar said that Maytree is pleased to partner with the federal government to build a pan-Canadian project that will connect the employers from all over the country and use their power to pool in skilled immigrants. She said that ALLIES will develop online learning tools that enable the employers to adopt successful strategies for hiring skilled immigrants.
At present the top priority for Canada is to attract and retain highly talented, educated and skilled immigrants from all over the world and at the same time make sure that all the Canadians are able to reach their maximum potential. This is really important for the long term economic success and prosperity of the country.
Currently, the FCRP is funding and working with provinces, territories and important stakeholders in order to make projects that would assist the evaluation and recognition of qualifications acquired by the workers in other countries.
