Due to huge labor shortages in a number of industries across Canada, the Canadian employers are now turning towards overseas workers. Alberta has been trying to recruit a number of workers from various countries. It has been strapped for skilled workers and therefore has led important recruitment drives to India, United Kingdom and South Africa.
Kirk White, a recruitment coordinator in Fort McMurray with OPTI Canada Inc. said that he believes that more and more numbers of companies will be going abroad due to the current labor shortage. He said that the companies will not only go to India or China but will also go to countries in Eastern Europe. At present, his own company is the process of hiring at least 28 candidates from India who were short-listed at career fare this May.
For the first time in the history of Canada, Opportunities Canada Expo was organized in the United Kingdom this June. It was organized by the city of Calgary, Calgary Economic Development and the officers of the Alberta Government’s Employment and Immigration. The Alberta companies who took part in the Expo said that it was very beneficial and it yielded a large number of highly skilled and qualified candidates.
The Canadian employers are trying to get hold of the global workforce as much as possible. It is very competitive because other countries like Australia and New Zealand are also recruiting fast in India as well.
Deepak Brahmbhatt, a spokesperson with the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology said that there are almost 3.7 billion workers in Middle East and Asia who are migrating from one place to another and if they get these workers then a large part of the problem will be solved.
