Canada tops the list of developed and industrialized country.
The latest census data reveals the fact that Canada tops the developed world in the proportion people from college or university who credential holders, 48 percent people in Canada fall into this class and a meager 39 percent in US and 32 percent in Australia.
Now having this fact in mind, we get to know why immigrants with advanced degrees are doing no more than the worst for such a qualification. Actually, Canada does not need them now and this is all due to poor immigration policies. The labor market in Canada is flooded with highly qualified workers. The result is a bad career move for the immigrant to Canada.
Repeatedly it is being said that Canada will suffer huge labor shortage and Canada needs more immigrants to satisfy the job growth. The construction trades are one area where there will be labor shortage but nothing is done in this regard. As source countries India and China heads the list of immigrants to Canada, still you will hardly see an Asian working in a skilled trade. So what is the reason behind favored nation status of India and China when they are actually not producing the skilled immigrants Canada needs?
There are talks about closing schools in Ontario as the school enrollment is down. So the question is – is immigration really helping us? In the list of top jobs in Canada for the year 2006, retail salesperson for both men and women are the most looked after workers, not engineers, and IT specialists. What labor shortage is they talking about defy all logic. Actually, there is no labor shortage and this is said repeatedly to make the Canadians accept the immigration laws that they in every sense oppose.
The labor requirements always keep fluctuating and it is unpredictable. For this reason, the Canadian immigration system should accept and reject applications on current labor needs and not the estimated future needs. Therefore, the current changes made in the immigration law will be very useful since there is no point in increasing the backlog of applications and bringing in people whose skills presence are already more than enough. This would also relief the applicants from waiting for their turn, as the applications would not be accepted, if not required on current basis.
