What is the price paid for illegal immigration?

Assumptions regarding the cost of illegal immigration have been challenged by reports of three big papers this week on the basis of three new local studies. According to The Times which threw its weight behind a ULCA study which revealed that Latino immigrants in California have lesser tendency to visit doctors, clinics, and emergency rooms in comparison to US-born Latinos. However, this does not state that healthcare expenses for illegal immigrants are low.

According to the New York Times, legal and illegal immigrants collectively comprise of twenty-one percent of the population of the state, and have nearly one-fourth contribution in the state’s economy. They also noted that proportional federal and state taxes are paid by immigrants.

The Washington Post noted from a Fairfax County report that bluntly dismisses the possibility of figuring out the cost of illegal immigrants simply because of the fact that some services used by immigrants, like roads and parks, aren’t made exclusively for their well being. A county official offered a very wise advice of not worrying about the burden that is posed upon libraries by illegal immigrants. He said in his statement that illegal immigrants do not run towards libraries in order to look for bestsellers.

The last study even went to the extent of questioning as to what is the formula behind those cost estimations that are being made. Many of the studies that were conducted to estimate the cost of illegal immigrants are outdated by long margins; and many others inspect only some part of cost, or the cost of a population that consists of illegal immigrants. However, these are in no way conclusive when it comes to estimating the cost of illegal immigrants.
