Canada making the most of every opportunity to seek skilled immigrants

The United States is extremely fortunate because of the fact that it attracts an apparently endless inflow of the best and the brightest people from all across the world as foreign guest workers. Most of these immigrants are highly skilled and talented individuals and have a high-skilled job set aside for their arrival. Most of them enter the US on the H-1B visas. These temporary immigrant workers include IT professionals, physical and social scientists, engineers and various other high level workers. These immigrants are the type of human capital that most societies of the world wish to have. But only few are fortunate, like the US.

However, if you think that there is a certain way by which H-1B visa holders can acquire a permanent status and eventually go on to get US citizenship, then you are absolutely wrong. The fact is that at the end of a maximum period of six years, these immigrants are shown the exit door.

Actually, Canada is also fortunate. It is next to the US and is reasonably happy to provide a home and a job to these unhappy workers, who now have work experience of North America. However, until very recently, the H-1B visa holders were treated in the same fashion as other applicants who were willing to acquire Canadian Permanent Residency. That meant that in spite of having loads of experience and required skill, these people had to go through the lengthy process for entering into Canada without any pre-arranged job.

But, this will not happen now. Due to shortage of skilled labors, Alberta is rolling out welcome mat for all the people holding the H-1B visa. So, if you have a valid H-1B visa and you have been working in the United States for more than a year then Alberta will nominate you for Canadian Permanent Residency, provided possess have the skills that are in demand in Alberta. If you have it then you just need to get in and jobs will follow you.

The government of Alberta’s website reads that the province has the strongest and fastest growing economy in Canada that provides you security and greater stability you are in search for. The minimum requirement for fast track permanent residency is- skilled foreign workers who have already proven that they are highly employable in North America.

Now, there will surely be more Canadian provinces that will follow similar programs and by the time the US realizes their mistake, Canada will encourage thousands of skilled and experienced immigrants to come in.
