An advisory council of thirteen members named by the immigration minister of Nova Scotia

The immigration minister of Nova Scotia has announced the names of the first members of the new immigration advisory council.

Len Goucher has announced the name of the thirteen people representing a cross-section of business, labour and community leaders. The group of thirteen people includes the honorary Consul of Lebanon Wadih Fares, president of the Dalhousie University, Tom Traves, President of the Nova Scotia Federation of Labour Rick Clarke and the Halifax Mayor Peter Kelly.

All the members of the specified council will meet three times in a year and they will provide advises on policies and programs that are aimed at helping the province to keep the new immigrants.

The terms of the members will vary from one year to three years. This would allow at least one third of the members of the council to be changed annually. The province has selected this group of thirteen members from a total of seventy nine applications that were filed.
