Tens and billions of dollars spent in major infrastructure and commercial development in the Western Canada are fuelling a continuous shortage of skilled people in construction, just as like the energy projects in the east rise up and compete for a dwindling pool of workers.

For Brian McAdam, Canadian diplomat, it wasn’t that he had uncovered the lucrative sale of Canadian visas when he was posted at the Honk Kong consulate of Canada.

He says that the Canadians as well as the Chinese consular staff were selling visas to members of the Chinese mafia and intelligence service of Communist China. He heard that he price somewhere in between $10,000 to $100,000 per visa.

He added that this showcases Canada’s ability to coordinate efforts to fight transnational organized crimes and speed up the immigration enforcement proceedings.

Federal Immigration Minister Diane Finley has high grade security equipment installed at her residence and riding office because of the fear over her personal safety. The cost of the whole security for Minister Finley has been estimated to be around $15,000.

Canada has a huge backlog of immigration applications that is more than 900,000 and in addition to this there are hundreds and thousands of deserving people who apply every year. There are many people who have been waiting for years in order to get their applications processed. The federal government complained that due to the first come- first served immigration process, individuals having skills and experience that are required by the employers are not been able to be admitted.

The immigration minister of Canada, Diane Finley is still consulting with the business groups regarding the job openings that are to be made available for the skilled immigrants based on the new legislation that could accelerate immigration applications.
