Beaten up by youths,man dies ; 3 arrested

Ludhiana : A MAN who had been badly beaten by four youths on Saturday evening succumbed to his injuries at CMC Hospital yesterday. On the statement of the girl who was with the victim when he was beaten up, Model Town police have registered a murder case against these four youths and arrested three of them.

The incident had occurred on Saturday at about 9.30 pm. Deceased Gajjan Sahni, aged 30, was going with the girl on a motorcycle when they were stopped by four youths on Pakhowal Road. It is learnt that these youths, who were on two motorcycles, were trying to indulge in moral policing. They reportedly started questioning Gajjan Sahni about his relationship with the girl.

Police say they were not satisfied with his explanation and beat him badly. They then took the girl with them and left her at her house.

Meanwhile, some people rushed the badly-injured Gajjan Sahni to Civil Hospital, from where he was referred to CMCH due to his critical condition. On Monday evening, Gajjan Sahni succumbed to his injuries. When Gajjan died, the girl complained to the police.

On her statement, Model Town police have registered a murder case against four persons including Tanvir Singh, Mandeep Singh, Ajay Pal alias Rubal and Vicky. All these youths are stated to be related to very rich and influential persons of the city.

Police have arrested Tanvir Singh, Mandeep Singh and Ajay Pal, while Vicky is yet to be arrested. Sarabha Nagar DSP R K Bakshi confirmed that the three persons had been arrested in this case.

Gajjan Sahni was a resident of Roop Nagar area on Dhandra road. He was in the business of selling fish on Pakhowal Road. His body was handed over to his relatives after post mortem at Civil Hospital.
