Youthful music
Rohit Shetty’s ‘Golmmal- fun unlimited’ has Ajay Devgan, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor and Sharman Joshi along with one and only Paresh Rawal, the film has Rimi Sen as the solitary heroine with Vishal-Shekhar coming together for lyrics. Months after their last full fledged score in 'Taxi No. 9211'.
First we have ‘Golmaal Golmaal Everything’s Gonna Be Golmaal’, sung exquisitely well by ex-Viva member Anushka Manchandani. From the very get-go, Vishal-Shekhar give us a taste of their signature style with the foreplay of guitar and electric violin. Vishal Dadlani too joins in briefly for an intermittent voiceover to add the spice. It is a fun number and the best way to begin this youthful album.
'Daal Me Kaala Ya Kaale Mein Daal' is sung has Shaan and K.K. It has a racy rhythm. It’s a situational number set in a western mode. No, it's neither a dance number nor or of a kind to be sung along but one won't really mind playing it on during a fast drive on a highway with a group of friends. It comes in both the original and a much faster remix version but it is the latter that works more due to the genre of the song and the mood it creates.
Golmaal’s Theme piece is up next and should sound familiar, as the opening whistles are all over the promos. It’s a regular theme piece that adequately depicts the masti of the film.
The best song of the album is 'Kyon Aage Peeche Dolte Ho' and you have to hear it to believe it. Shot in black & white with everything from musical arrangements to choreography to costumes to mannerisms to background dancers gives it a feel of 50’s. It is a hilarious number. Sneha Pant and Shekhar sing this number. Fun continues in the remix version of the song that again maintains the authenticity of 50s by adding in 'dholki' beat to make it sound like a Punjabi 'ched-chaad' number.
‘Reha Ja’ is the other highly publicized song from Golmaal. Sung by Javed Ali, it has a hip-hop flavour. All in all, the piece is a welcome into this happening group of songs but could have been worked just a bit more to reach optimal heights. Sunidhi is present in the remixed version. Javed Ali’s performance is acceptable.
Finally we reach the end, and unfortunately it’s a bitter one! Kunal Ganjawala sings ‘Mast Malang’. It is just an average track. Kunal provides what’s asked of him but nothing extra. Remove this from your playlist, as there are enough enjoyable tracks to listen in this album.
'Golmaal' has already created some curiosity around it due to a youthful look and feel. Music by Vishal-Shekhar give a youthful effect to all the songs. It’s not the duo’s best work but it’s not bad either.
Go grab yourself a copy and enjoy it for fun times.
