Killer’s music not killing
With this film, the Bhatt brothers move from SAREGAMA HMV label to T-Series. Whether it was 'Murder', 'Tumsa Nahi Dekha, 'Zeher', 'Kalyug' or most recently 'Gangster', the music of each of these films where Vishesh Films - HMV combined and that always resulted in a bumper success. However this time, Vishesh films joined hands with T-Series.
The album of ‘Killer’ is just average. 'Teri Yaadon Mein' is a song sung by K.K. it is a song that will remind you of the kind of songs Nikhil Vinay composed for Sonu Nigam’s non- movie tracks.
The song takes you back down the memory lane as the combo of Nikhil Arya and T-Series is brought to lime light again. The song has simple music arrangement with a rocking effect and K.K has done a good job. Shreya Ghosal lends the female voice to this song with a western twist. The club feel is prevalent in the song's remix that starts on a funky note and continues in an extended mix mode before KK gets an opportunity to be heard once more.
K.K and Shreya Ghosal pair up again in the song ‘O Sanam’. A European or a Spanish chorus hits the song in the beginning. What makes the song different is the whisteling sound throughout the song. If one hears the song closely, realization strikes that the tune is somewhat reminiscent of the T-Series-Anuradha Paudwal numbers that one heard in the early-mid 90s, though the results are much more contemporary and urban this time.
'Abhi Toh Main Jawan Hoon' is sung by Alisha Chinoy. The song begins with an ethinic note with the sound of ghungroo and tabla. It is picturized on Nisha Kothari who is a bar dancer in the film. However, the song is not as good as other bar girl’s number. It is just an average number.
'Hibbaki' has a touch of Middle East and a western touch too. After all, the film is set in Dubai. Suzzane sings the song with support from Earl and Hamza who add on the rhythm and overall they manage to come up with a time pass, if not a memorable number. The song is also heard in a remix version. The remix version is a good dance number with heavy bass accompanying the tune.
'Yaar Piya' has an assortment of different musical instruments. This song is the weakest of the album.
'The Killer' started on a winning note with 'Teri Yaadon Mein', 'O Sanam' and to a little extent 'Hibbaki' but lost its way rapidly with songs like 'Abhi To Main Jawaan Hoon' and 'Yaar Piya'.
Sajid Wajid may have attempted to strike back with 'The Killer' but the situational feel of the film doesn't really get them a right stage to demonstrate their actual capabilities. The composer duo have the potential to do much better than giving music for an album that has 60% of its songs set as a bar dance numbers!
The music of ‘Killer’ is just average. My suggestion to all of you would be to listen to 40% of the album and then move on to the next cd on your music system.
