Australia conducting audit of educational institutes to ensure visa to genuine students
Student Education is one of the biggest money churner industry in UK, Australia and Canada. All these countries are tying to come up a best destination for education to attract maximum students.
Australia is working on strengthening its student visa checks to ensure that students are not able to get admission based on fraudulent documents. It has also restricted online access to Australia’s eVisa system to reinforce the country’s standing as a high quality education destination.
Keeping students out who gain admission based on fraudulent documents would help it ensure that only genuine students receive high quality education and not the ones who join an education institute only to gain immigration in the country.
To give a clear message that it will not tolerate fraud in the student visa program, the Australian government is carrying out an audit of several vocational institutes in the country, especially who have hired agents to woo international students.
These measures will target a number of countries including India, Nepal and Brazil where there has been rapid increase of student applications. Australia also plans to terminate or suspend agents where there is evidence of fraud to protect the interests of all genuine students. More than 20 agents have been suspended so far because of evidence of fraud.
While most of these agents were operating in Australia, a small number of agents were from India. To regain their access to the online system, agents will now need to “show cause” for their behavior.
