Kharar, August 24: An ex-serviceman in his seventies was brutally killed with sharp-edged weapons while he was asleep at Badali village in Kharar sub-division on Tuesday night. The victim, Surmukh Singh, was a bachelor and lived with his younger brother Dalbara Singh.
With no specific clue found during preliminary investigations so far, the police are groping in the dark to solve the case. The victim was found with injuries on his forehead and face. An almirah in his room was also found broken open. However, the family has not reported any loss.
Surmukh was found lying in a pool of blood by Dalbara’s grandson Gurjit Singh when he went to serve bed tea. The family immediately called the police and Kharar DSP R.S. Sandhu rushed to the spot. A dog squad and fingerprint experts were also pressed into service.
Admitting that no specific clue was obtained so far, Sandhu said preliminary investigations suggested that the crime was committed by someone known to the victim.
However, it is learnt that Surmukh was planning to sell some of his property, for which property dealers were contacting him for the past few days. A case under Section 302 of the IPC has been registered at Kurali police station.
